Enables N-acetylgalactosaminyl-proteoglycan 3-beta-glucuronosyltransferase activity and glucuronosyl-N-acetylgalactosaminyl-proteoglycan 4-beta-N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase activity. Acts upstream of or within chondroitin sulfate biosynthetic process. Is active in Golgi apparatus. Is expressed in articular cartilage; cartilage; cerebral cortex; and humerus. Orthologous to human CHPF (chondroitin polymerizing factor).
PHENOTYPE: Homozygous mice are viable and no detectable mutant phenotype is reported. Mice homozygous for another knock-out allele exhibit slight reduction in femur and tibia length. [provided by MGI curators]
