Protein Coding Gene : Fosl1 fos-like antigen 1

Primary Identifier  MGI:107179 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  19 NCBI Gene Number  14283
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Enables RNA polymerase II transcription regulatory region sequence-specific DNA binding activity and promoter-specific chromatin binding activity. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including placenta blood vessel development; toll-like receptor signaling pathway; and vitellogenesis. Predicted to be located in nucleoplasm and presynaptic membrane. Predicted to be part of RNA polymerase II transcription regulator complex. Predicted to be active in nucleus. Is expressed in several structures, including extraembryonic component; genitourinary system; limb mesenchyme; and lung. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in stomach cancer. Orthologous to human FOSL1 (FOS like 1, AP-1 transcription factor subunit).
PHENOTYPE: Homozygous inactivation of this gene leads to in utero lethality. Embryos homozygous for a reporter/null allele are severely growth retarded and display defects in the extra-embryonic compartment, including a highly abnormal yolk sac and a narrow, largely avascular placental labyrinth layer.
