abstractText  Full text of MNL contribution: 4. New Mutants. (i) Grizzled (gr). This is a new colour gene having nearly the same effect as chinchilla. The yellow pigment becomes white, but the black pigment is unaffected. In combination with non-agouti it is recognisable by the hairs on the ears and genitalia being white instead of yellow. It is recessive and it is not allelomorphic with albino. We have not yet enough data to say with certainty that the segregation is normal. ( ii ) Pygmy (pg). This new dwarfing gene was obtained as a segregant in Professor J. W. MacArthur's stock of selected small mice. It is the cause of the undersized individuals referred to by him as 'runts'. Homozygotes weigh about 45% of the normal mice of the same strain, when adult. Both sexes are sterile. Pygmy is a recessive gene and segregates normally. It is not allelomorphic with Snell's pituitary dwarf. Physiological investigations are in progress.
