abstractText  From evidence given by Beechey and Searle (MNL 75: 28, 1986) it seemed likely that retarded splotch Sp<r>, was a deletion covering the Sp locus on Chromosome 1. Giemsa banding studies have now shown this to be the case with deletion of the light band 1C4, bringing together the dark bands C3 and C5 to produce a wider band. The deletion thus represents around 2% of the physical length of Chromosome 1 and allows the splotch locus to be placed in band 1C4. (Evans, Burtenshaw, Beechey and Searle).
