abstractText  Full text of MNL contribution: Change of symbol: Pro-1 Dr. Fred G. Biddle, Department of Biology, McGill University, Montreal 101, Canada has notified us that, following the Guidelines for biochemical variants published by the Committee on Standardized Genetic Nomenclature for Mice,in Biochemical Genetics 9 (1973) 369, the gene symbol for the carbonic anhydrase locus has been changed from Pro-1 (erythrocytic protein) to Car-1 (carbonic anhydrase). The following table outlines the changes: - Name Carbonic anhydrase; Previously used symbols: locus: Pro-1; alleles: Pro-1<a>; New symbols: locus: Car-1; alleles: Car-1<a>; Type strains: C57BL/6J, C57BL/10J, RF/J Name: Carbonic anhydrase; Previously used symbols: locus: Pro-1; alleles: Pro-1<b>; New symbols: Car-1; alleles: Car-1<b>; Type strains: A.BY, A/WySn, C3H/HeJ, CBA/J, DBA/2J, LG/M1, SM/M1, SWV The pertinent literature references that describe the erythrocytic protein variants and the carbonic anhydrase enzyme activity associated with these proteins are: (1) Biddle, F. G. and M. L. Petras, 1967. The inheritance of a non-hemoglobin erythrocytic protein in Mus musculus. Genetics 57: 943-949. (2) Biddl.e, F.G., and H. Krasny, 1970. The association of carbonic anhydrase activity with the non-hemoglobin erythrocytic protein (Pro-1) of the house mouse. Can. J. Genet. Cytol. 12: 374 (abstract). N.B. The symbol Pro-1 is now used to designate the locus for proline oxidase-1.
