Protein Coding Gene : Adcy1 adenylate cyclase 1

Primary Identifier  MGI:99677 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  11 NCBI Gene Number  432530
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.0.0)

Enables adenylate cyclase activity. Involved in modulation of chemical synaptic transmission; neuroinflammatory response; and regulation of circadian rhythm. Acts upstream of or within axonogenesis and long-term memory. Located in cytoplasm and postsynaptic density. Is active in several cellular components, including Schaffer collateral - CA1 synapse; hippocampal mossy fiber to CA3 synapse; and postsynaptic density membrane. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; genitourinary system; nervous system; respiratory system; and sensory organ. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in autosomal recessive nonsyndromic deafness 44. Orthologous to human ADCY1 (adenylate cyclase 1).
PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for an insertional or null mutation fail to develop normal patterned distribution of neurons in the brain and display behavioral and learning abnormalities. [provided by MGI curators]
