abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: 8. Two mutations from non-agouti black to a dark brown coat color have occurred. The first was found by animal caretaker Selena Norwood in the C57BL/6J colony of the Jackson Laboratory Animal Resources. It behaves as an autosomal recessive and we are provisionally calling the gene chocolate with symbol cht. Chocolate has been tested for allelism with several other brown coat color genes maintained here. Not only is the rich dark brown color unique but the allelism tests to date have proven negative. The second mutation was found recently by Hilda Higgins in the stock BlO.PL(73NS)/Sn. The gene behaves as a dominant on outcrossing and the coat color is a medium dark brown, so we are provisionally calling it Dominant brown with symbol Dbr. Allelism tests with other brown coat color genes are in progress. (MacPike and Mobraaten) |
