Protein Coding Gene : Rasgrf1 RAS protein-specific guanine nucleotide-releasing factor 1

Primary Identifier  MGI:99694 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  9 NCBI Gene Number  19417
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Enables glutamate receptor binding activity. Involved in neuron projection development; regulation of Rac protein signal transduction; and regulation of Ras protein signal transduction. Acts upstream of or within regulation of neuronal synaptic plasticity and type B pancreatic cell proliferation. Located in cytosol and growth cone. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; genitourinary system; musculoskeletal system; nervous system; and sensory organ. Orthologous to human RASGRF1 (Ras protein specific guanine nucleotide releasing factor 1).
PHENOTYPE: Homozygotes for null mutations (and heterozygotes with a paternally inherited mutant allele) exhibit reduced postnatal growth, low insulin and IGF I levels, glucose intolerance, beta-cell hypoplasia, impaired long-term synaptic plasticity, and impaired hippocampal-dependent learning.
