Protein Coding Gene : Pde5a phosphodiesterase 5A, cGMP-specific

Primary Identifier  MGI:2651499 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  3 NCBI Gene Number  242202
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.0.0)

Enables 3',5'-cyclic-nucleotide phosphodiesterase activity and cGMP binding activity. Involved in negative regulation of cardiac muscle contraction; positive regulation of cardiac muscle hypertrophy; and relaxation of cardiac muscle. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including cGMP catabolic process; positive regulation of oocyte development; and regulation of nitric oxide mediated signal transduction. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; brain; genitourinary system; respiratory system; and sensory organ. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in IgA glomerulonephritis. Orthologous to human PDE5A (phosphodiesterase 5A).
PHENOTYPE: Mice with a mutation that prevents luteinizing hormone-induced phosphorylation are viable, fertile and show no obvious morphological or behavioral abnormalities. [provided by MGI curators]
