Protein Coding Gene : Ube2b ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme E2B

Primary Identifier  MGI:102944 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  11 NCBI Gene Number  22210
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Enables ubiquitin conjugating enzyme activity and ubiquitin protein ligase binding activity. Involved in positive regulation of canonical Wnt signaling pathway. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including chromosome organization; positive regulation of reciprocal meiotic recombination; and sperm axoneme assembly. Located in XY body. Part of chromatin. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; brain; genitourinary system; hemolymphoid system; and integumental system. Orthologous to human UBE2B (ubiquitin conjugating enzyme E2 B).
PHENOTYPE: Homozygous null mice exhibit male sterility associated with a defect in the elongation and nuclear condensation stage of spermiogenesis. Sperm flagellum abnormalities characterized by abnormal distribution of periaxonemal structures are observed in addition to sperm head shape anomalies. [provided by MGI curators]
