Protein Coding Gene : Cnot7 CCR4-NOT transcription complex, subunit 7

Primary Identifier  MGI:1298230 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  8 NCBI Gene Number  18983
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Enables poly(A)-specific ribonuclease activity. Involved in positive regulation of nuclear-transcribed mRNA catabolic process, deadenylation-dependent decay; positive regulation of nuclear-transcribed mRNA poly(A) tail shortening; and regulatory ncRNA-mediated gene silencing. Acts upstream of or within P-body assembly and positive regulation of RNA metabolic process. Located in P-body and nucleus. Part of CCR4-NOT complex. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; central nervous system; early embryo; genitourinary system; and skeleton. Orthologous to human CNOT7 (CCR4-NOT transcription complex subunit 7).
PHENOTYPE: Homozygous null mice display male sterility with oligo-teratozoospermia, impaired sperm motility, unsynchronized spermatid maturation, and Sertoli cell abnormalities. [provided by MGI curators]
