Protein Coding Gene : Mettl3 methyltransferase 3, N6-adenosine-methyltransferase complex catalytic subunit

Primary Identifier  MGI:1927165 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  14 NCBI Gene Number  56335
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.0.0)

Enables mRNA (N6-adenosine)-methyltransferase activity. Involved in several processes, including RNA metabolic process; forebrain radial glial cell differentiation; and mRNA destabilization. Part of RNA N6-methyladenosine methyltransferase complex. Is active in nucleus. Is expressed in brain; genitourinary system; hindlimb; intestine; and liver. Orthologous to human METTL3 (methyltransferase 3, N6-adenosine-methyltransferase complex catalytic subunit).
PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit embryonic lethality between E3.5 and E8.5 with a deficiency in adopting the epiblast egg cylinder. Conditional homozygous knockout in the ovary or in primordial germ cells in testes causes sterility. [provided by MGI curators]
