Protein Coding Gene : Usf2 upstream transcription factor 2

Primary Identifier  MGI:99961 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  7 NCBI Gene Number  22282
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Enables DNA binding activity. Involved in lipid homeostasis and positive regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter by glucose. Acts upstream of or within lactation; positive regulation of DNA-templated transcription; and regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II. Located in nucleus. Is expressed in several structures, including central nervous system; dorsal root ganglion; early conceptus; genitourinary system; and sensory organ. Orthologous to human USF2 (upstream transcription factor 2, c-fos interacting).
PHENOTYPE: Homozygous null mutants are 20-40% smaller at birth and > 50% die postnatally, possibly because they are unable to nurse. In survivors, a proportionate dwarfism is maintained into adulthood. Males are usually infertile and die before 6 months of age. [provided by MGI curators]
