Protein Coding Gene : Ptprs protein tyrosine phosphatase receptor type S

Primary Identifier  MGI:97815 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  17 NCBI Gene Number  19280
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.0.0)

Enables chondroitin sulfate binding activity; heparin binding activity; and protein tyrosine phosphatase activity. Involved in several processes, including negative regulation of dendritic spine development; negative regulation of neuron projection development; and regulation of postsynaptic density assembly. Acts upstream of or within central nervous system development and establishment of endothelial intestinal barrier. Located in plasma membrane. Is active in Schaffer collateral - CA1 synapse; glutamatergic synapse; and presynaptic membrane. Is expressed in several structures, including adipose tissue; genitourinary system; gut; nervous system; and sensory organ. Orthologous to human PTPRS (protein tyrosine phosphatase receptor type S).
PHENOTYPE: Almost half of null homozygotes die in the first day of life. Embryos are characterized by decreased brain size including small pituitary glands and small olfactory bulbs. Adult mice are small, lack estrus, have decreased litter sizes and have impairedolfaction. [provided by MGI curators]
