Protein Coding Gene : Cd55 CD55 molecule, decay accelerating factor for complement

Primary Identifier  MGI:104850 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  1 NCBI Gene Number  13136
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.0.0)

Predicted to enable enzyme inhibitor activity; lipid binding activity; and virus receptor activity. Acts upstream of or within regulation of complement activation, classical pathway. Located in external side of plasma membrane. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; genitourinary system; integumental system; liver and biliary system; and nervous system. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in prostate cancer and protein-losing enteropathy. Orthologous to human CD55 (CD55 molecule (Cromer blood group)).
PHENOTYPE: Homozygous mutant mice show increased susceptibility to injury following ethanol exposure, to experimental autoimmune myasthenia gravis and to acute nephrotoxic nephritis. Another allele results in an abnormal complement cascade leading to increased C3 deposition. [provided by MGI curators]
