Protein Coding Gene : Tmem258 transmembrane protein 258

Primary Identifier  MGI:1916288 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  19 NCBI Gene Number  69038
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.0.0)

Enables oligosaccharyltransferase complex binding activity. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including epithelial cell apoptotic process; protein N-linked glycosylation; and response to endoplasmic reticulum stress. Predicted to be located in endoplasmic reticulum and membrane. Predicted to be part of oligosaccharyltransferase I complex. Predicted to be active in membrane-bounded organelle. Is expressed in several structures, including genitourinary system; heart; liver; lung; and spleen. Orthologous to human TMEM258 (transmembrane protein 258).
PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele exhibit embryonic lethality while heterozygotes exhibit increased susceptibility to DSS-induced colitis associated with increased endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. Homozygous deficiency in colonic organoids results in unresolved ER stress and apoptosis. [provided by MGI curators]
