Enables N-acetylglucosamine deacetylase activity; [heparan sulfate]-glucosamine N-sulfotransferase activity; and heparan sulfate N-deacetylase activity. Involved in heparan sulfate proteoglycan biosynthetic process, polysaccharide chain biosynthetic process. Acts upstream of or within mast cell mediated immunity and regulation of angiotensin levels in blood. Is active in Golgi apparatus. Is expressed in several structures, including brain; genitourinary system; liver; lung; and spleen. Orthologous to human NDST2 (N-deacetylase and N-sulfotransferase 2).
PHENOTYPE: Mice homozugous for a null allele exhibit reduced mast cell numbers, histamine storage, protease storage and degranulation. [provided by MGI curators]
