Protein Coding Gene : Slc26a7 solute carrier family 26, member 7

Primary Identifier  MGI:2384791 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  4 NCBI Gene Number  208890
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Enables chloride channel activity and chloride:bicarbonate antiporter activity. Involved in several processes, including nitrate transmembrane transport; organic anion transport; and thyroid hormone generation. Acts upstream of or within chloride transport. Located in basolateral plasma membrane. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; brain; limb; respiratory system; and sensory organ. Used to study congenital hypothyroidism. Orthologous to human SLC26A7 (solute carrier family 26 member 7).
PHENOTYPE: Mice deficient for this marker have a reduce arterial pH and reduced serum bicarbonate. Urine is more concentrated and has an elevated pH. [provided by MGI curators]
