Protein Coding Gene : Tbx6 T-box 6

Primary Identifier  MGI:102539 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  7 NCBI Gene Number  21389
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Enables RNA polymerase II cis-regulatory region sequence-specific DNA binding activity and RNA polymerase II-specific DNA-binding transcription factor binding activity. Involved in negative regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including negative regulation of neuron maturation; regulation of gene expression; and somite rostral/caudal axis specification. Located in nucleus. Part of chromatin. Is expressed in several structures, including 4-cell stage embryo; embryo ectoderm; embryo mesenchyme; genitourinary system; and primitive streak. Used to study spondylocostal dysostosis. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in spondylocostal dysostosis 5. Orthologous to human TBX6 (T-box transcription factor 6).
PHENOTYPE: Homozygous null embryos die during organogenesis exhibiting defects in paraxial mesoderm differentiation, ectopic neural tube development, kinked neural tubes, impaired somite development, hematomas, enlarged tail buds, and laterality defects associated with nodal cilium anomalies.
