Protein Coding Gene : Parp1 poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase family, member 1

Primary Identifier  MGI:1340806 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  1 NCBI Gene Number  11545
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.0.0)

Enables chromatin binding activity and pentosyltransferase activity. Involved in several processes, including decidualization; negative regulation of adipose tissue development; and regulation of nucleobase-containing compound metabolic process. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including DNA metabolic process; behavioral response to cocaine; and negative regulation of interleukin-17 production. Located in cytoplasm; nucleolus; and nucleoplasm. Part of chromatin. Is active in site of DNA damage. Is expressed in several structures, including brain; gonad; hemolymphoid system; intestine; and retina. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in several diseases, including arthritis; bacterial meningitis; neurodegenerative disease (multiple); stomach carcinoma; and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Orthologous to human PARP1 (poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase 1).
PHENOTYPE: Homozygous ablation of this gene may lead to skin hyperplasia, extreme sensitivity to radiation and alkylating agents, abnormal response to xenobiotics and endogenous compounds, reduced noise-induced hearing loss, altered susceptibility to neurotoxicity, or protection against renal ischemic injury.
