| abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: Research News: 5. Hm and Hx are not alleles. In MNL 52:38 (1975) we reported no recombinants between Hm and Hx in 516 offspring from the cross Wv Hm +/+ + Hx by wild type. Before this cross was discarded there were no recombinants between Hm and Hx in 1119 offspring: 438 Wv Hm +, 440 + + Hx, 121 Wv + Hx, 120 + Hm +. The cross of Wv Hx +/+ + Hm by wild type has given one recombinant between Hx and Hm in the following progeny: 984 Wv Hx +, 999 + + Hm, 275 Wv + Hm, 286 + Hx +, 1 + + +, total 2545. This single + + + female when test mated to a wild type male produced 16 normal wild type offspring confirming her + + + genotype. Therefore, based on the above data, Hm and Hx are not allelic but are closely linked genes and Hx and lx are confirmed to be not allelic based on the recombination values previously reported for lx and Hm (MNL 39:28, 1968).
