abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: 2. Spotted sterile male - (preliminary symbol - Ssm) - The gene causing white spotting on the belly, fore and hind legs, tail and the male sterility as well. The mutants are discovered among B10.M/Y mice. Phenotypically they are similar to Sp mutants. but Ssm localized on 5th chromosome; Ssm-go recombinants - 13.6 +/- 1.61%. Ssm/+ males on background of B10.M genotype are sterile. Testis weight is 2-2.5 times smaller thatn in +/+ males. Ssm/+ males on background of YT/Y, CBA/CaY, DBA/2JY, A.CA/Y genotypes are fertile. In crossing of heterozygotes the mutant/normal ratio is 2:1. At 18-20th day of gestation the anemic embryos were found (~30%). Homozygotes are borne alive and die at twenty four hours of postnatal life. Craniofacial defects like in Ph homozygotes are not occured. White, darkeyed, sterile mice are born in crossing of Ssm/+ females with +/W<v> males. Thus, Ssm is linked closely with W<v> and similar to Ph. Ssm have not been tested for allelism with Ph.
