Protein Coding Gene : Ip6k1 inositol hexaphosphate kinase 1

Primary Identifier  MGI:1351633 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  9 NCBI Gene Number  27399
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Predicted to enable inositol hexakisphosphate kinase activity. Involved in negative regulation of cold-induced thermogenesis. Located in cytoplasm and nucleus. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; heart; integumental system; nervous system; and sensory organ. Orthologous to human IP6K1 (inositol hexakisphosphate kinase 1).
PHENOTYPE: Homozygous mutation of this gene results in impaired glucose tolerance, decreased insulin levels, bilateral epididymal aspermia, and testicular degeneration in males. Homozygous KO also increases presynaptic neurotransmitter release in the hippocampus. [provided by MGI curators]
