Protein Coding Gene : Sox30 SRY (sex determining region Y)-box 30

Primary Identifier  MGI:1341157 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  11 NCBI Gene Number  214105
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Enables DNA-binding transcription activator activity, RNA polymerase II-specific and DNA-binding transcription repressor activity, RNA polymerase II-specific. Involved in negative regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II; positive regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II; and proacrosomal vesicle fusion. Located in chromocenter and nucleus. Is expressed in several structures, including genitourinary system; gut; heart; liver; and lung. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in hepatocellular carcinoma and lung cancer. Orthologous to human SOX30 (SRY-box transcription factor 30).
PHENOTYPE: Nullizygous mutations of this gene result in male infertility associated with arrest of spermiogenesis at the round spermatid stage and azoospermia. Increased male germ cell apoptosis and multinucleated giant male germ cells are observed. [provided by MGI curators]
