Protein Coding Gene : Cela1 chymotrypsin-like elastase family, member 1

Primary Identifier  MGI:95314 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  15 NCBI Gene Number  109901
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.0.0)

Enables serine-type endopeptidase activity. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including elastin catabolic process; exocrine pancreas development; and regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II. Located in collagen-containing extracellular matrix. Is expressed in alveolus epithelium; lung; pancreas; pancreas tip epithelium; and right lung accessory lobe. Orthologous to human CELA1 (chymotrypsin like elastase 1).
PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for a null allele exhibit reduced elastase activity in distal airspace walls, increased elastin fibers in airspace walls, increased wet-to-dry lung weight ratio, and increased lung elastance. [provided by MGI curators]
