Protein Coding Gene : Shc1 src homology 2 domain-containing transforming protein C1

Primary Identifier  MGI:98296 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  3 NCBI Gene Number  20416
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Enables epidermal growth factor binding activity; identical protein binding activity; and signaling receptor binding activity. Involved in insulin-like growth factor receptor signaling pathway. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including circulatory system development; epidermal growth factor receptor signaling pathway; and positive regulation of MAPK cascade. Predicted to be located in endosome membrane. Predicted to be part of Shc-EGFR complex. Predicted to be active in plasma membrane. Is expressed in several structures, including cerebral cortex; early conceptus; liver; skeleton; and skin. Orthologous to human SHC1 (SHC adaptor protein 1).
PHENOTYPE: Homozygotes with a targeted mutation of the exon encoding the CH2 region show an extended life span, reduced cellular sensitivity to oxidative stress and UV irradiation, and resistance to diet-induced atherogenesis. Homozygotes lacking all three isoformsdie around E11.5 with cardiovascular defects. [provided by MGI curators]
