Protein Coding Gene : Tnc tenascin C

Primary Identifier  MGI:101922 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  4 NCBI Gene Number  21923
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.0.0)

Predicted to enable fibronectin binding activity; integrin binding activity; and syndecan binding activity. Involved in morphogenesis of an epithelium and regulation of inflammatory response. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including neuromuscular junction development; peripheral nervous system axon regeneration; and prostate gland development. Located in basement membrane; extracellular region; and interstitial matrix. Part of tenascin complex. Is active in perisynaptic extracellular matrix. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; brain; genitourinary system; immune system; and skeleton. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in allergic conjunctivitis; asthma; autosomal dominant nonsyndromic deafness 56; and pulmonary hypertension. Orthologous to human TNC (tenascin C).
PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for several different targeted mutations show variable behavioral and nervous system phenotypes such as abnormal circadian rhythm, anxiety behavior, novelty-induced activity, swimming, impaired synaptic plasticity, long term potentiation and serotonin and dopamine neurotransmission.
