Protein Coding Gene : Cda cytidine deaminase

Primary Identifier  MGI:1919519 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  4 NCBI Gene Number  72269
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Enables cytidine deaminase activity and identical protein binding activity. Involved in UMP salvage. Is active in cytosol. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; eye; genitourinary system; heart; and nervous system. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in lung non-small cell carcinoma. Orthologous to human CDA (cytidine deaminase).
PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for a knock-out allele appear healthy and exhibit a normal lifespan with no detectable behavioral phenotypes or changes in the frequency or type of spontaneous tumors. Despite a mild genetic instability in primary kidney cells, homozygotes show decreased incidence of chemically induced colon tumors. [provided by MGI curators]
