Protein Coding Gene : Mapk6 mitogen-activated protein kinase 6

Primary Identifier  MGI:1354946 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  9 NCBI Gene Number  50772
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.0.0)

Enables MAP kinase activity; protein heterodimerization activity; and protein kinase binding activity. Acts upstream of or within positive regulation of dendritic spine development. Located in cytoplasm; nucleus; and septin cytoskeleton. Part of protein-containing complex. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; brain; genitourinary system; respiratory system; and sensory organ. Orthologous to human MAPK6 (mitogen-activated protein kinase 6).
PHENOTYPE: Homozygous null mice show limited fetal growth, reduced serum IGF2 levels, pulmonary hypoplasia and early neonatal death. About 40% of newborns die of acute respiratory failure exhibiting delayed lung maturation, reduced sacculation, atelectasis, and impaired type II pneumocyte differentiation.
