Protein Coding Gene : Trpc5 transient receptor potential cation channel, subfamily C, member 5

Primary Identifier  MGI:109524 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  X NCBI Gene Number  22067
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Enables inositol 1,4,5 trisphosphate binding activity. Involved in neuron apoptotic process and phosphatidylserine exposure on apoptotic cell surface. Is active in presynapse. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; endocrine gland; genitourinary system; immune system; and liver and biliary system. Orthologous to human TRPC5 (transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily C member 5).
PHENOTYPE: Mice with homozygous null alleles of the gene exhibit diminished innate fear response with reduction in synaptic activation and strength in neurons of the amygdala. Mice homozygous for a null allele exhibit reduced female fertility with reduced prolactin levels. [provided by MGI curators]
