Ontology Term : Translocation UniProtKeyword

description  Protein involved in the transport of proteins across a membrane. As an example translocation into the nucleus occurs via nuclear pores which allow rapid diffusion of small molecules. Larger molecules (maximum 9 nm) take longer. Translocation into the mitochondria or chloroplast occurs at sites of adhesion between the outer and inner membranes and is driven by ATP hydrolysis as well as the electrochemical gradient of the inner membrane
