abstractText  Full text of MNL contribution: Linkage for bald-arthritic, Bda. This fully penetrant mutant, which occurred in a laboratory stock (MNL 57, 11 '77) is closely linked with rex, Re (chromosome 11). Outcrosses of Bda/Re to normal have given 0/33 recombinants. Bda/Re x Bda/Re: Bda,+: 64; Bda, Re: 122; +, Re: 60; +,+: 1; Total: 247. Thus the homozygote BdaBda is fully viable, as is ReRe, and the recombination value is 3.16%. These values are compatible with those obtained for wa-2, vt and Tr. A cross BdaBda x A1A1, to decide position, was abandoned because the classification of A1 was too uncertain. Since homozygous females breed poorly, the stock is maintained in intercross form, as above, whence virtually all "Bda, +" are BdaBda,++. This identifies them from Bda+, with which they overlap in hair phenotype at weaning, although not at 2 months or so. Dr. Page-Thomas of the Strangeways Laboratories, Cambridge, is taking over the stock in order to study the arthritic tendency of BdaBda at 4-6 months. It is remarkable that a dominant hair-loss and a dominant hair-waving gene occur with a very low recombination in both chromosome 11 and chromosome 15 (N and Ca). (Wallace, Ferguson)
