abstractText  The gene for human P450(17 alpha) (CYP17) was previously mapped to chromosome 10 through analysis of somatic cell hybrids. Using a modified procedure of fluorescence in situ hybridization, this gene has now been visualized on simultaneously banded chromosomes and localized to a specific subband of chromosome 10 at q24.3. This precise assignment may facilitate the understanding of the molecular basis of 17 alpha-hydroxylase/17,20-lyase deficiency and the evolution of the CYP superfamily of genes.
