Description: The ADAM2 protein (also known as fertilin beta or PH30 beta; MEROPS identifier M12.950) is a non-peptidase homologue in peptidase family M12. ADAM2 is found in sperm as a heterodimer with ADAM1 (fertilin alpha; MEROPS identifier M12.201) []. The ADAM2 protein consists of a propeptide, a reprolysin-like metallopeptidase domain, a disintegrin domain, a cysteine-rich region, a epidermal growth factor-like domain, a transmembrane region and a cytoplasmic tail []. The disintegrin domain has been shown to be important during fertilization by binding to an oolemmal integrin receptor []. ADAM2 is processed during epididymal maturation to remove N- and C-terminal propeptides [].
