This group includes two members of the TGF-beta superfamily: bone morphogenetic protein 3 (BMP3) and bone morphogenetic protein 3B (BMP3B), also known as growth differentiation factor 10 (GDF10). Together they represent a subgroup of the BMP family. They are involved in development and organogenesis. In developing embryos, they have different dorsalising activities []. BMP3 is a negative regulator of bone density []. BMP3B plays an inhibitory role in the process of osteoblast differentiation [].
