  • Search this entire website. Enter identifiers, names or keywords for genes, diseases, strains, ontology terms, etc. (e.g. Pax6, Parkinson, ataxia)
  • Use OR to search for either of two terms (e.g. OR mus) or quotation marks to search for phrases (e.g. "dna binding").
  • Boolean search syntax is supported: e.g. Balb* for partial matches or mus AND NOT embryo to exclude a term

Protein Domain
Type: Family
Description: Synaptonemal complex protein 2 (SYCP2) is a major component of the axial/lateral elements of synaptonemal complexes (SCs), which regulate the arrangement of homologous chromosomes during meiosis. SYCP2 is a primary determinant of axial/lateral elements and is required for the incorporation of SYCP3 into the synaptonemal complex [].
Protein Domain
Type: Family
Description: This entry represents a group of plant meiosis-specific proteins, such as AtASY3 from Arabidopsis and PAIR3 from rice. They are coiled-coil domain proteins required for normal meiosis []. PAIR3 is an axial element and part of the synaptonemal complex (SC) that forms between homologous chromosomes during meiosis []. Members of this family are homologues of SYCP2 from vertebrates and fungal Red1/Red10 [].
Protein Domain
Type: Family
Description: This entry includes synaptonemal complex protein 2 (SYCP2) and synaptonemal complex protein 2-like (SYCP2L).SYCP2 is one of the major components of the transverse filaments of the synaptonemal complex. Synaptonemal complexes are structures that are formed between homologous chromosomes during meiotic prophase [].SYCP2L has partial sequence homology to a SYCP2 and is the major component of nucleolar cortical skeleton in Xenopus oocytes []. In humans, SYCP2L promotes primordial oocytes survival, thus being associated with age at natural menopause (ANM) [].

Protein Domain
Type: Domain
Description: Synaptonemal complex protein 2 (SYCP2) N-terminal region contains two separate subdomains an ARLD (armadillo-repeat-like domain) and an SLD (Spt16M-like domain). The ARLD domain belongs to the armadillo-repeat protein family. Armadillo-repeat units often form a superhelix, which typically provides a platform for many protein partners that transduce Wnt signaling, such as beta-catenin. The ARLD of mouse SYCP2 was found to associate with different protein partners, including CENP J and CENP F. ARLD structure is highly similar to that of the 'required for cell differentiation (RCD-1)' protein [].
