This entry represents Profilin1/2/3 (PFN1-3) from vertebrates. So far, four Profilins have been identified in mammals, PFN1-4. PFN1-3 contain an actin-binding site and a poly-L-proline bindingsite, while PFN4 lost both []. This entry includes PFN1-3 that bind to monomeric actin (G-actin) in a 1:1 ratio thus preventing the polymerisation of actin into filaments (F-actin). They can also in certain circumstance promote actin polymerisation [].
