Description: Phospholipid transfer protein (PLTP) is a nonspecific lipid transfer protein. Besides phospholipids, PLTP efficiently transfers diacylglycerol, alpha-tocopherol, cerebroside, and lipopolysaccharides []. These transport functions play an important role in lipid and lipoprotein metabolism. Lipoprotein-associated PLTP proteins exist in both active and inactive forms. Active plasma PLTP is associated with apoA-I- containing lipoproteins and inactive one is associated with apoE-containing lipoproteins []. PLTP is considered a promising pharmacological target to treat atherosclerosis [].
