Regulatory solute carrier protein family 1 member 1 (RSC1A1, also known as RS1) has been shown to induce downregulation of the sodium-D-glucose cotransporter 1 (SGLT1) and of the concentrative nucleoside transporter 1 (CNT1) in the plasma membrane by blocking exocytosis at the Golgi [].SGLT1 is rate-limiting for glucose absorption in the small intestine. RSC1A1 regulates SGLT1 by inhibiting the release of vesicles from the trans-Golgi network. RSC1A1 is also involved in glucose dependent down-regulation of SGLT1 transcription [].
