Description: This entry represents the catalytic subunit SEC11C from the signal peptidase complex. This subunit is found in signal peptidases from animals and fungi. The signal peptidase complex removes the targeting signal from newly synthsized proteins that are destined for the endoplasmic reticulum []. Two catalytic subunits, with overlapping specificity, are present in signal peptidase. SEC11C (also known as the 21kDa subunit) is one of the catalytic components (MEROPS identifier S26.010), with a Ser/Lys catalytic dyad. SEC11C is a type II membrane protein, with an N-terminal cytoplasmic domain, a transmembrane region, and a C-terminal lumenal domain.
