Long-chain fatty acid transport protein 3 (FATP3, also known as Solute carrier family 27 member 3 SLC27A3 and as very long-chain acyl-CoA synthetase 3, ACSVL3) belongs to the FATP family, whose members facilitate long- and very long-chain fatty acid uptake [, ]. However, FATP3's role in fatty acid uptake has not been demonstrated experimentally []. FATP3 mainly functions as an acyl-CoA ligase catalysing the ATP-dependent formation of fatty acyl-CoA using long and very-long-chain fatty acids (LCFA/VLCFA) as substrates [, ].
