  • Search this entire website. Enter identifiers, names or keywords for genes, diseases, strains, ontology terms, etc. (e.g. Pax6, Parkinson, ataxia)
  • Use OR to search for either of two terms (e.g. OR mus) or quotation marks to search for phrases (e.g. "dna binding").
  • Boolean search syntax is supported: e.g. Balb* for partial matches or mus AND NOT embryo to exclude a term

Protein Domain
Type: Family
Description: UPF3A promotes nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD) and regulates translation efficiency. It associates with the nuclear exon junction complex (EJC) and serves as link between the EJC core and NMD machinery []. It is a nucleocytoplasmic shuttling protein that associates selectively with spliced beta-globin mRNA in vivo []. Like other UPF3 proteins, UPF3A contains nuclear import and export signals, and a conserved Smg4_UPF3 domain with some similarity to an RNA recognition motif (RRM).
Protein Domain
Type: Family
Description: This entry includes nonsense-mediated mRNA decay protein 3 (Upf3) and its homologues. In budding yeasts, Upf3 is involved in the nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD) pathway []. Human Upf3a and Upf3b are components of the exon-junction complex (EJC), which promotes nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD) and regulate translation efficiency [].
