Description: von Willebrand factor A domain-containing protein 2 (VWA2 protein) or AMACO is an extracellular matrix protein containing VWA-like domains related to those in matrilins and collagens. The protein consists of a signal peptide sequence, an N-terminal VWA domain connected to two additional tandem VWA domains by a cysteine-rich sequence and an epidermal growth factor (EGF)-like domain, and a C terminus made up of another EGF-like domain followed by a unique sequence present in mouse, but absent in human []. VWA2 protein is a component of the Fraser complex (FC). FC is believed to stabilise the basement membrane, which is a non-celular matrix that separates epithelium, mesothelium and endothelium from the underlying connective tissue [, ].
