In higher organisms, acyl-CoA thioesterases (ACOTs) catalyze hydrolysis of fatty acyl-CoAs to free fatty acids and CoA-SH. Different ACOT isoforms are localized to distinct cellular organelles. ACOT6 is a cytosolic isoform highly expressed in brain tissue and testis [].
