Protein Domain
Type: Family
Description: This entry represents chloride intracellular channel 4 and 6.Like several other chloride intracellular channel (CLIC) proteins, CLIC4 is dimorphic and can exist in soluble form or as a membrane channel. It has a transmembrane domain and is found in intracellular membranes including inner mitochondrial membrane, trans Golgi network and the endoplasmic reticulum. It has putative chloride ion selective channel activity []. Soluble CLIC4 is abundant in the cytoplasm and can translocate to the nucleus under conditions of metabolic stress, apoptosis and DNA damage []. CLIC4 is upregulated in response to p53 transcriptional activity and is essential for p53 and c-Myc mediated apoptosis [, ].CLIC6 is a member of the chloride intracellular channel (CLIC) protein family, though no chloride channel activity has been shown for it yet. CLIC6 is significantly longer than the other other members of the CLIC family []. It interacts with dopamine D(2)-like receptors [].
