Unexpectedly, we found linkage of the haze (hz) mutation (reported to be an allele of maroon, Russell, MNL 50, p 43) to Gpi-1 and Hbb on Chr 7. Our allelism tests confirm that haze is an allele of ruby-2 and maroon. On the human interest side, both haze and a mutation originally called ruby-type (later named ru-2J) were in our mouse room for years and never allelism-tested. In 1972 we imported ru-2 and maroon from Harwell. Does anyone want four separate mutational events at the ruby-2 locus? We suggest that the symbols for maroon and haze be changed to ru-2mr and ru-2hz. (Eicher and S. Fox) |
