| abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: This spontaneous autosomal recsessive mutation arose in The Jackson Laboratory's Animal Resources colony of C3HeB/FeJ at F111. Homozygotes have an absence of pigment on the abdomen in a large mid-ventral patch, a head blaze, white feet and white tail tip. There is some variability in the presence of the head blaze. Heterozygotes can exhibit a tiny patch on the abdomen and usually no white feet or tail tip. We have used electrophoretic differences between C3HeB/FeJ and C57BL/6J and MOLD/Rk inbred strains to map vs to Chromosome 9 close to Apoa-1. vs and Mpi-1 type of progeny: Cross: 1: Female x Male; vs Mpi-1b/+ Mpi-1a x vs Mpi-1b/vs Mpi-1b; vs b: 14; + ab: 12; vs ab: 4; + b: 5; Total: 35. Cross: 2; vs Mpi-1b/vs Mpi-1b x vs Mpi-1b/+ Mpi-1a; vs b: 24; + ab: 22; vs ab: 11; + b: 6; Total: 63. Recombination frequencies: Vs Ð Mpi-1: female, 9/35, 25.7 +/- 7.4; males, 17/63, 27.0 +/- 5.6 Cross: 3; vs Apoa-1 Mod-1; vs ba/+ ab x vs ba/vs ba; vs b a: 6; + ab ab: 5; vs ab ab: 2; + ba: 0; vs b ab: 0; + ab a: 2; vs ab a: 0; + b ab: 0; Total: 15. Recombination frequencies: vs - Apoa-1: male, 7/109, 6.4 +/- 2.3; female, 2/15, 13.3 +/- 8.8 vs - Mod-1: male, 27/109, 24.8 +/- 4.1; female, 4/15, 26.7 +/- 11.4 Apoa-1- Mod-1: male, 24/109, 22.0 +/- 4.0; female, 2/15, 13.3 +/- 8.8 Two additional linkage crosses were done. In an intercross with Mpi-1, out of a total of 15 mutant F2 mice analyzed (equivalent to 30 chromosomes from a standard backcross), 5 were MPI-1AB and 10 were MPI-lB, giving a percent recombination of 16.7 +/- 6.8. A repulsion backcross with short ear produced 5 + +, 19 vs +, 18 + se, 9 vs se (total 51) from an Fl male, giving a percent recombination of 27.5 +/- 6.3.
