Protein Coding Gene : Tfap2c transcription factor AP-2, gamma

Primary Identifier  MGI:106032 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  2 NCBI Gene Number  21420
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.1.0)

Enables DNA-binding transcription factor activity, RNA polymerase II-specific and RNA polymerase II cis-regulatory region sequence-specific DNA binding activity. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including branch elongation involved in mammary gland duct branching; forebrain development; and keratinocyte development. Located in nucleus. Is expressed in several structures, including early conceptus; embryo ectoderm; embryo mesenchyme; genitourinary system; and retina. Orthologous to human TFAP2C (transcription factor AP-2 gamma).
PHENOTYPE: Homozygous inactivation of this gene leads to embryonic growth retardation, failure to establish a normal maternal-embryonic interface, malformed extra-embryonic tissues, and early embryonic lethality due to placental malfunction. [provided by MGI curators]
