abstractText | Full text of MNL contribution: Mouse liver responds to different kinds of systemic injuries by a coordinate increase in synthesis and secretion of a subset of plasma proteins, the acute phase reactants; these include serum amyloid A (SAA), two forms of a1-acid glycoproteins (AGP-1 and AGP-2), haptoglobin, and hemopexin. Previously, we mapped the structural genes for SAA (Saa) and AGP-1 (Agp-1) to chromosomes 7 and 4, respectively (Baumann et al., J. Biol. Chem. 259:566-573, 1984). To map the genes for haptoglobin and AGP-2, we used M. spretus, a wild-derived mouse that carries structural variants for these proteins as identified by two-dimensional acrylamide gel electrophoresis of the proteins encoded by liver RNA in vitro. Following analysis of (AKR/J x M. spretus) F1 x AKR/J backcross animals, we found that the structural gene for haptoglobin<1>(Hp) is located on chromosome 8, approximately 7 + 4 cM from Es-1. The structural gene for AGP-2 (Agp-2) co-segregated with Agp-1 in all 58 backcross animals, indicating close linkage on chromosome 4. Agp-1 and Agp-2 are located approximately 11 +/- 4 cM distal to Mup-a.* *Standard symbol Mup-1 (Ed.) (H. Baumann and F.G. Berger) |
