Protein Coding Gene : Psmc4 proteasome (prosome, macropain) 26S subunit, ATPase, 4

Primary Identifier  MGI:1346093 Organism  mouse, laboratory
Chromosome  7 NCBI Gene Number  23996
Mgi Type  protein coding gene
description  FUNCTION: Automated description from the Alliance of Genome Resources (Release 7.0.0)

Predicted to enable proteasome-activating activity. Acts upstream of or within blastocyst development. Part of proteasome accessory complex. Is expressed in several structures, including cranial ganglion; early conceptus; gonad; liver lobe; and submandibular gland primordium. Used to study amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Orthologous to human PSMC4 (proteasome 26S subunit, ATPase 4).
PHENOTYPE: Mice homozygous for disruptions in this gene die as embryos. Mice heterozygous for a knock-out allele and a conditional allele activated in motor neurons develop ALS-like symptoms. [provided by MGI curators]
